FOX is an internationally acclaimed book for young readers written by Margaret Wild and illustrated by Ron Brooks. In 2010 the Monkey Baa team will present an outstanding adaptation  which opens at the Seymour Centre in April 2010 before a 30 week national tour.

The haunting text is set to music by Daryl Wallis and the action of the story is presented through a series of poetic visual and striking physical images.

Beautifully designed and imaginatively conceived this is a story of friendship and courage.

Suitable for ages 8 - 108!

“It is important that the theatrical adaptation retains the extraordinary poetry of Margaret Wild’s original story.  The challenge has been how to bring the powerful and multi-layered story telling of the book into the shared space of the performers and audience.”

Jane Phegan (Magpie), Jay Gallagher (Fox), David Buckley (Dog)

“There’s an amazing electricity generated between the human voice, body, image and story and it’s an enormous privilege to bring this story alive for young audiences and their families in a theatrical context.”

  Jane Phegan (Magpie)

“Music is an incredible way to access emotions, inner landscapes and associations. It’s an age-old story telling device which we have combined with our responses to the book’s themes of transformation, courage and friendship in this rich theatre experience.”

  Sarah Jones (Spirit)

“Magpie’s life is transformed by both Dog and Fox. So in making the show we use the idea of transformation as a mechanism to build the theatrical story telling.  Can a human body change scale and become a small puppet? Or can a shadow become a three dimensional form?  It’s exciting and puts us in touch with the powerful experience of the characters. It’s a very playful process and this keeps the story telling light.”

“Margaret Wild’s story is a spectacular book, with stunning illustrations by Ron Brooks. It is evocative story with a dark underbelly.  We have transformed this static imagery into a work for the stage that is symbolic, present and alive.” Kate Gaul (Director)
